The Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA), a groundbreaking collaboration amongst Japan's five music industry bodies, announced plans to launch the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN on 22 May 2025 from the historic ROHM Theater in Kyoto.
The event aims to be the biggest awards show in the world’s second-largest music market, all while celebrating a new era of Japanese and Asian artists on a global stage.
Centered around the theme of “Connecting the world, illuminating the world,” MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN will include over 60 categories. Japanese music, which has enjoyed greater international attention during the 2020s due to the embrace of streaming service and other digital platforms, will feature in the majority of the event’s categories, including major awards such as Artist Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
The full diversity of the nation’s musical community will be on display, with honors geared towards hip-hop, Vocaloid and much more. Artists from across Asia will also be included in categories focused on the broader continent, while additional categories will spotlight performers from other regions.
The ceremony will be broadcast on Japanese television, and also live-streamed to the world on YouTube. The selection of nominees and voting for the eventual winner for each category will involve industry experts, artists, music journalists and many others involved in the global music business from all over the world.
The event will also feature performances from a wide range of artists. Seminars and other events will be held in Kyoto during the week prior, geared at those in the music industry from all over the world.
