Five years after shaking the music scene with her explosive major-label debut 'Usseewa', Ado—now just 22 years old—marks the milestone with the release of her first-ever greatest hits album, Ado’s Best Adobum. The celebration continues with the release of the music video for her powerful new single, 'ROCKSTAR', which also serves as the theme for Marubeni’s new corporate campaign.
The cinematic video for 'ROCKSTAR' follows a protagonist who, after failing to become a rockstar in a past life, returns to Earth as a corpse for one night to chase her dream. Directed by TOHRU MiTSUHASHi and NANON CREATIVE— known for Ado’s iconic videos 'Show', 'Ibara', 'Shoka' and 'Elf' — and illustrated by Kayuka ('Odo'), the visual is a compelling tale of redemption, passion, and unrelenting ambition.
'ROCKSTAR' is an empowering anthem for anyone striving to overcome adversity, capturing Ado’s personal journey from recording in a closet to becoming a chart-topping global sensation. The song’s uplifting message — “we are not alone = let’s do it together” — aligns with Marubeni’s corporate philosophy, “Share the Challenge.”
'ROCKSTAR' is featured on Ado’s Best Adobum, a two-disc collection of 40 genre-defying tracks that span her meteoric career. From viral anthems like 'Usseewa' and 'Odo', to emotionally charged deep cuts and collabs with top creators, the album is a definitive portrait of one of Japan’s most trailblazing voices.
"I am happy to announce the release of my Best Adobum (Album). It’s incredibly moving to think that it has already been five years since I made my major debut. Back then, I only had one or two songs to my name, but now I have so many beloved tracks that I can’t even count them all," Ado shares. "I hope everyone will once again enjoy the songs that have been cherished and loved by so many for so long."
"It’s still hard for me to believe that it’s been five years since my major debut. I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who has supported me and allowed me to continue my activities as an artist for this long. I also feel incredibly fortunate to have so many of you who love the name “Ado” and my voice," Ado continues. My music and activities will continue to evolve, and I hope to walk with you all toward the future I believe in. Thank you for your support!"
