The Projector will celebrate its ninth anniversary with a special showcase this January.
Titled We’re (on Cloud) Nine!, the showcase will see three of The Projector's longest-running and top-grossing films — Parasite, Taxi Tehran, and Tiong Bahru Social Club— return to the Singapore-based independent cinema operator's screens for a limited time.
Released in 2019, Bong Joon-ho's critically acclaimed black comedy and thriller Parasite explores social issues in South Korea through a tale about a poor family that becomes employed by a wealthy one. Starring Song Kang-ho, Park So-dam, Choi Woo-shik, and the late Lee Sun-kyun, the film picked up the Palme d'Or at the 72nd Annual Cannes Film Festival and the award for Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards.
Directed by Jafar Panahi, who was banned from making films for two decades in 2010, the 2015 docufiction film Taxi Tehran follows the Iranian filmmaker as he engages in conversations with everyday Iranian citizens he picks up in his taxi. The film won the Golden Bear award at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.
Also included in the lineup for We’re (on Cloud) Nine! is Singaporean director Tan Bee Thiam's Tiong Bahru Social Club, a satirical film with sci-fi elements that centres around a project to create the world's happiest neighbourhood in Tiong Bahru.
