DEEP CUTS, a new grassroots conference targeted at creatives and arts lovers, will make its debut in Singapore this month.

The first of its kind in Asia, the event, scheduled to run from 13 to 14 January, will feature over 20 programmes and more than 40 artists from Singapore's various arts communities, including music, nightlife, street arts, and dance.

The inaugural edition of DEEP CUTS will be held atthe iconic Peace Centre, which will be torn down at the end of January.

At the conference, guests will be invited to contemplate "the roots of identity, space, community" as well as the future of Singapore's arts scene while hearing from its invited speakers.

Programme highlights include podcast-like keynotes from butoh practitioner and choreographer Xue, artist Minsoo Bae, and live visual arts performer Jaymi McManus and panels and presentations featuring professionals from various industries, such as Wild Pearl's Chris Shearmon, Comma Arts Space's Wang Ruobing, photographer Marisse Caine, journalists Hidzir Junaini and Michelle Lhooq, and musicians Ahmadul Amin and JX Soo.

There will also be closed-door workshops and roundtables that guests can immerse themselves in, including a course on making safer nightlife spaces, a movement and arts jam, an interactive historical lesson, and a class on creating art with natural materials.

What's more, attendees can enjoy music from trailblazers and artists of the Lion City's nightlife scene — including Last Saturday’s, Yes You, Strange Weather, NorthEast Social Club, 0rbit, Midnight Shift, Shinju Mura, and more — at a party that will bring the first day of DEEP CUTS to a close.

DEEP CUTS' co-founder, Anastasiya Varentsya, said: “In a mere few months, the creative grassroots community demonstrated keen enthusiasm to transform Peace Centre into one of the most fascinating creative hubs via PlayPan. Similarly, the community banded together in full force for DEEP CUTS. The voracity of demand received, and the speed of how everything has come together, has been overwhelmingly positive. I think this truly underscores the fact that there is a strong yearning for safe spaces to discuss and ideate about the current state and future of the creative grassroots scene, and what needs to be done in cementing our shared cultural footprint for generations ahead.”

Passes to the event, priced from SGD 30, are available via Eventbrite. Early bird passes to the official party can also be purchased via the same link for SGD 25. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to DEEP CUTS' speakers and partners.
